Has more on now but his talent has yet to be fully explored.Ĩ Marble Sands – Paddy Brennan (T: Fergal O’Brien) 150/1 (*) A long way behind Hermes Allen at Newbury in December but has since won a Listed contest on good ground at Huntingdon. Has much more on his plate now and his record-breaking trainer has better options.ħ Impaire Et Passe – Paul Townend (T: Willie Mullins) 15/8 (****) Has won two out of two for Mullins since arriving from France and could hardly have done so more easily. Trainer likes him a lot.Ħ Ho My Lord – Mark Walsh (T: Willie Mullins) 33/1 (**) Justified cramped odds to win an ordinary maiden at Navan last month. Jumped badly to his right under pressure last month despite the win.Ĥ Good Land – Michael O'Sullivan (T: Barry Connell) 11/2 (***) Justified favouritism to win Grade 1 contest at last month’s Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown and going the right way, although that race unfolded favourably for him.ĥ Hermes Allen – Harry Cobden (T: Paul Nicholls) 11/4 (*****) Has won three hurdles out of three and delivered the best British novice performance of the season when easing to success in the Challow Hurdle at Newbury in December. Much-respected, however.ģ Gaelic Warrior – Mr PW Mullins (T: Willie Mullins) 11/2 (*) Short-priced second in the Boodles here last season, 3-3 this term but takes a big step up in class and trip now. Made all to win a Grade 1 race at Naas in January over 2m 4f but was perhaps aided there by some hurdles being omitted in the home straight. One win from three over hurdles this season and 2m defeat in Listed company at Naas last month leaves him with major work to do.Ģ Champ Kiely – Danny Mullins (T: Willie Mullins) 8/1 (***) Star bumper horse last season, including second here. Ballymore Novices' Hurdle: the runners and ridersġ American Mike – Davy Russell (T: Gordon Elliott) 40/1 (**) The Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle takes place at 1.30pm on Wednesday March 15, and is the first race on day two of the Cheltenham Festival. Scoop £190 worth of bonuses with today’s best Cheltenham betting offers When does the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle take place? Not since Ben Pauling’s Willoughby Court in 2017 has a British-trained runner won the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. That said, as of the start of this week, Impaire Et Passe heads the market. He’ll be hoping the six-year-old clings to favouritism as this race has been very kind to the market leaders in recent times, with Samcro, Envoi Allen, Bob Olinger and Sir Gerhard winning four of the last five renewals. Nicholls has a talented squad of novice hurdlers this season and many feel that Hermes Allen is the pick of the bunch. However, it’s likely that Britain’s champion trainer Paul Nicholls will be responsible for the favourite, Hermes Allen occupying that berth since his romp in the Challow Hurdle at Newbury in December. Mullins’ contenders this season are Impaire Et Passe, Gaelic Warrior, Champ Kiely and Ho My Lord as he attempts to find the right targets for his army of runners. The leading trainer in Festival history has won the prize five times with Fiveforthree (2008), Mikael D’Haguenet (2009), Faugheen (2014), Yorkhill (2016) and Sir Gerhard (2022). It is another race in which Willie Mullins has enjoyed plenty of success. The Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle is the second of three Grade 1 novice contests over timber at the Cheltenham Festival and is run over two miles and five furlongs. ![]()
